KBM is unique among forestry consulting firms in its diversity of services represented by three divisions. The three divisions are integrated in a manner that advances ideas, technology and service capabilities for the benefit of our clients.
The foundation of the company has been the provision of site preparation tools and services to the forest industry in Northwestern Ontario. This foundation helps to properly ground advances in technology and practice that is accessible and practical for our clients.

Consulting & Technical Services
KBM Forestry Consultants Inc. is built on a core of experienced senior consultants, a skilled group of junior consultants and support staff all with strong field orientation. Our staff display expertise in various fields including forestry, ecology, biology, and environmental assessment. Together, we maintain Ontario-based strategic partnerships and networks with professionals across North America and Sweden. Recent work includes:

Site Preparation
KBM is one of the largest providers of site preparation services for the Canadian forest industry. Our staff of skilled mechanics, operators, and subcontractors treats over 5,000 acres annually in northwestern Ontario. KBM utilizes a number of different types of equipment to suit different applications including environmentally sensitive intermittent patch scarification which we introduced to North America. We have also pioneered simultaneous site preparation and seeding and maintain active R&D and continuous field-testing of new systems.
Sales and Service
The KBM Sales division is actively involved in bringing GPS utility to the forest industry and the general public. Along with the standard GPS systems, we distribute the TMS and SPS log haul and site preparation tracking systems. Our sales catalogue can be found on-line.

Strategic Partnerships and Business Initiatives

KBM/University of Winnipeg (C-FIR) Partnership
KBM recently opened a satellite office at the University of Winnipeg, which will assist us in bringing our expertise and services to our clients in Manitoba and western Canada. Research and development opportunities and integration with industry represent a key function of our new satellite office. |
First Nations Business Ventures
KBM has pursued successful joint ventures in site preparation and business development with First Nations. We have negotiated co-management of new forest operations in traditional territory as well as leading training and community development projects.

KBM Chile, South America
KBM developed a site preparation and in-bush chipping service in Chile that began operations in 1991 as a whole-owned subsidiary. Ownership was successfully transferred to local operators in 2006. |
KBM/LU-CARIS Partnership
LU-CARIS was established 1983 at Lakehead University as a research and teaching facility. Its partnership with KBM acts as a technology transfer agent for GIS and remote sensing applications to industry and government. |
